How to Relax & Spread the Wings (Important Guide)

These specimens are shipped dried to ensure safe delivery. Before spreading, they must be softened properly.

Step 1: Relaxing (Softening the Specimen)

  • Place the specimen in a sealed container
  • Use alcohol steam (ethanol) or a humidity chamber
  • Leave for 12–24 hours until the body and wings become flexible

Step 2: Spreading the Wings

  • Carefully position the moth on a spreading board
  • Use entomology pins to fix the body and wings
  • Adjust wings symmetrically for best display
  • Let dry naturally for 3–5 days until fully set

Storage Instructions (Very Important)

  • If you are not ready to pin immediately, store the specimens in a freezer
  • This prevents mold, insects, and damage
  • Keep in a sealed bag or container before freezing

Notes

  • Each specimen is natural → slight variations in color/size are normal
  • Wings/tails may have minor imperfections due to nature
  • Handle with care (very delicate)
